FreeLance Caving Group (FCG) PublicationsThe Freelance Caving Group were an early NSW club centred around Evalt Crabb and active in the late 1950s to 1961. The ASF Library only holds three issues of the club journal "the Caverneer", which appeared to be handwritten up to issue 3. The club did not appear to have a logo but an attempt at one (reproduced above) appeared on Issue 4. Areas visited included Colong, Bungonia and Wee Jasper. It was not supposedly a 'serious' club but the publications show a leaning toward research and documentation even in the early stages. The FCG evolved into the Highland Caving Group. Any material in these publications should not be reproduced without the permission of HCG. Please see here for a list of HCG publications. A note about the beginning of FCG and HCG, and the indefatiguable Evalt Crabb can be found in farewells to Evalt written in Caves Australia 166-167, 2005.
