the conference, the Buchan Caves Advisory Committee was disbanded, and so the arrangements for
editing and publishing collapsed.  We are now extremely grateful the Bairnsdale Region of the
Department of Conservation and Environment for making this publication possible.

We also must note that this volume is a continuation of the series previously known as Cave
Management in Australia. It has been re-named in light of the strong interest and involvement of New
Zealanders, and marks a turning point in the history of cave management in our region.
