The Associazione Gruppi Speleologici Piemontesi (AGSP) was founded in 1979 as an independent affiliation of the various caving groups within the Piemonte Region. The following year the Piemonte Region administration instituted statute 69/80, covering the "Safeguarding of the Speleological Heritage of the Piemonte Region", and recognizing a technical committee within the AGSP to promote, co-ordinate and manage speleological activities.
Currently there are eleven member caving groups, from several cities and villages: Torino, Cuneo, Novara, Biella, Giaveno, Pinerolo, Coazze, Garessio, Varallo and Borgosesia.
Institutionally the Association aims to promote the safeguarding and the valorization of nature and the environment, in particular its speleological aspects.
