Conditions for posting WDPA on websites

WE ENCOURAGE ORGANIZATIONS TO POST THE DATABASE IN YOUR OWN SITES ALONG WITH OTHER INFORMATION YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN PUBLISHING. NEVERTHELESS, IN ORDER TO KEEP CONSISTENCY ACCROSS THESE IMPLEMENTATIONS AND HELPING THE WDPA DEVELOPMENT PROCESS, WE ASK YOU TO ABIDE BY THESE TERMS OF USE.

PLEASE READ THIS CONDITIONS NOTICE AND THE TERMS OF USE BEFORE POSTING ANY OF THE CONTENTS OF THIS CD-ROM IN OTHER ONLINE WEBSITES. BY PUBLISHING WDPA DATA ONLINE, YOU AGREE TO ABIDE BY THE CONDITIONS OF WDPA DATA RELEASE AND THE TERMS OF USE.

The present WDPA version 2005 has been updated from its previous release in February, 2004. WDPA data can be made available to external users for research, educational purposes and specifically for non-commercial use only. WDPA data are subject to change without notice.

If you wish to publish the content of the WDPA data (the "WDPA Materials") online, please abide to the following conditions:

  1. WDPA data "X" (where X is the year of edition and release, e.g., 2003, 2004, etc.) acquired from this CD-ROM or File Transfer Protocol (FTP) must always be clearly acknowledged and its contents cannot be modified, improved, changed in format or appearance.
  2. All WDPA data should be clearly identified as such in that year of release. It must also include all associated metadata containing the technical description of the information as well as the terms of use, which should be clearly visible and accessible to the user.
  3. WDPA data must provide the following link to the central database at UNEP-WCMC and the following text should be included:

    The central World Database on Protected Areas is kept at the UNEP-World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) and is updated continuously providing the most current data on protected areas worldwide. The following link gives you access to this database: http://www.unep-wcmc.org/parks/index.html
    This text should be visible and accessible to the user at all times.
  4. WDPA data must not be improved or altered in any way or form. Rather, a link to the IUCN WCPA Portal Feedback section WDPA at http://www.biodiversity.org/wcpa/ must be included as a way to facilitate interactions between the data user and the WDPA Consortium to notify of any data errors and omissions.

The above provision applies to all WDPA data, which are made public through the public domain for wide non-commercial uses.

The WDPA data has been produced by combining various sources at a variety of scales at different times for the purpose of improving the quality and quantity of data in the database. While all efforts have been made to ensure the quality and reliability of the data on this media, UNEP, IUCN, and the WDPA Consortium take no responsibility whatsoever for errors or omissions and offers on guaranties or warranties about the suitability of this data for any particular use. WDPA data are considered to be a WORK IN PROGRESS.

IUCN, UNEP, its subsidiaries and their Staff, and WDPA Consortium-member organizations will not be responsible for negligence, strict liability or otherness in the use of WDPA data by other users as a result of posting data in other websites. The user and webmaster at their own discretion and risk will be solely responsible for any damage to their and others user's computer systems as a result of attempts in downloading WDPA data through the public domain.
