Using the GIS Data with ArcExplorer™
Follow these instructions in order to install and access the GIS data on the CD-ROM. Skip the two first steps if you already have a GIS software installed.
- Install ArcExplorer™ 2 in your computer. To do this select your CD-ROM media drive and navigate to the folder titled GIS_software.
- Double click on the file "ae2setup.exe," which will prompt a blue window for ArcExplorer™ 2. Follow the instructions on the screen. You may need to restart your computer after the installation is complete to detect and install the new software.
- Once the ArcExplorer™ 2 software is installed, double click on the icon ArcExplorer™ 2, which should have been installed in your desktop and open the program.
- In the "File" main menu on the tool bar, select the second option "Open Project," which will prompt the window that will allow you to browse to the location of the files on your computer.
-
Select your CD-ROM drive: In the root directory you will find project files for different GIS programs. Select the file that correspond to the GIS software you have installed in your computer in accordance to the following list:
- arcexplorer_v2project.AEP (to open with ArcExplorer™ 2)
- arcview_v32project.apr (to open with ArcView™ 3.2)
- arcgis_v82project.mxd (to open with ArcMap™ 9)
- The project file will open and you will be ready to start your GIS session. If you need more information on how to get started, find more information on the tutorial section under "Installing the WDPA 2005" on this CD-ROM.
