The Highland Caving Group
evolved from the Freelance Caving Group (FCG) around 1961, but dates
its beginnings from the Freelance days in the late 1950's. The club
is active in exploration and surveying.
HCG has a current publication "Calcite", which is sometimes called
"The Calcite" and which is available from
their website. The
numbering is mostly issue-based though some experimentation with
issue and volume numbers has occured. Issues 31
and 32 were never produced - 32 is mentioned as a work in progress in
Issue 33! The ASF Library also
holds some early copies of a HCG Newsletter, a HCG Journal, and
random issues of a "Bulletin" which was described in the first issue
(Feb 1999) as "Not Calcite, not the minutes".
Any material in these publications should
not be reproduced without the
permission of HCG. Please see
here for a list of FCG
publications. A note about the beginning of FCG and HCG, and the
indefatiguable Evalt Crabb can be found in farewells to Evalt
written in
Caves Australia 166-167, 2005.
